Top Chef's Padma Lakshimi
I’m a huge fan of the reality series show, Top Chef. I especially admire the style of Padma. She always looks fabulous and she can cook! My role model! Lately, Padma’s style has been sheer tops with black pants. Either they changed the stylist on the show or Padma is starting to wear more revealing clothing. Regardless, she does it in a classy way. If anyone can tell me who she’s wearing in these 2 pics…. You will be my hero!

denim shorts + nylons
Katie Holmes was the first celebrity I’ve noticed wearing this winter trend. Last winter it was black footless tights paired with frayed jean shorts, however this winter the look has become more sophisticated with nylons. While I would never wear this trend, I can see it becoming very popular as these two pieces are in everyone’s wardrobe. After lunch on Robson St. I saw a 20-something attempting this look and to me it didn’t work. This girl had paired her shorts and nylons with open toed stilettos. She should have paired the look with a pair of mustard or black boots.

Fried Ravioli
Just when I thought I’d start yet another diet this year… I saw Giada De Laurentiis on Oprah and …I had to -had to – had to try this recipe. It always confuses me that Giada can eat so much pasta and still stay so thin! Anyway, please try this recipe. And, don’t be lazy and buy Chef boyardee and fry them up!!?!
Fried Ravioli
Ingredients:
- Olive oil , for frying
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
- 1 box store-bought bite-size cheese ravioli (about 24 ravioli)
- 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 to 2 cups marinara sauce , heated, for dipping
Heat 2 inches of olive oil in a large frying pan over medium heat until a deep-fry thermometer registers 325°.
While the oil is heating, put the buttermilk and the breadcrumbs in separate shallow bowls. Working in batches, dip the ravioli in the buttermilk to coat completely, allowing the excess buttermilk to drip back into the bowl. Dredge the ravioli in the bread crumbs. Place the ravioli on a baking sheet, while you coat the remaining ravioli.
When the oil is hot, fry the ravioli in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried ravioli to paper towels to drain.
Sprinkle the fried ravioli with Parmesan cheese and serve with a bowl of warmed marinara sauce for dipping.
Makes 4 to 6 servings.
